Obituary of Audrey Roberta Taylor

Gate City - Audrey Roberta Taylor, 87 of Gate City went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Holston Manor in Kingsport following a long illness. Born in Lebanon, VA, Audrey had lived in Gate City for most of her life and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1944. She worked at Holston View Preschool in the 80's and was a member of Holston View United Methodist Church in Weber City. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Taylor; her parents, Vaught and Bessie Taylor Ferguson; sisters, Laverne Morrison, Iona Lester and Frances Williams; brothers, Perry Ferguson and Roosevelt Ferguson. Audrey is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jewel and R. C. Sykes of Kingsport; grandson, Travis Sykes and wife Jeni; great-grandson, Nate Sykes all of Cleveland, TN; brother-in-law, James Taylor, Jr. of Kingsport; sister-in-law, Virginia Ferguson of Lebanon, VA; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Don Hanshew officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holston View United Methodist Church, 174 Church Street, Weber City, VA 24290 or to the charity of one's choice. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of her neighbors in East Carters Valley who showed her such kindness and care through the years so that she was able to remain at home. And to Linda Gannonway and all the workers and bus drivers of MEOC Community Fellowship Daycare, the staff of the 100 wing of Holston Manor, her roommate Clara Lipe's family and Amedisys Hospice Care.
